NSF grant to design the future of risk work in fire departments.
Dr. Mauricio Mejía will join Dr. Katie Pine (PI, ASU), Dr. Yunan Chen (UC Irvine), Dr. Melissa Mazmanian (UC Irvine), and Dr. Myeong Lee (GMU) to study data-driven risk prediction and management in fire departments and co-design speculative artifacts to predict and manage risk with fire departments. The project is titled Understanding the Present and Designing the Future of Risk Prediction IT in Fire Departments. The National Science Foundation awarded the team a Human-Centered Computing (HCC) grant of $1,200,000. This is an interdisciplinary project with diverse methods including ethnography, speculative design, design futures, and quantitative evaluation.
